To expand their living space into the outside, a family of 4 asked for an expanded patio and deck for entertaining and daily meals together outside. We reorganized the site with a layout plan and detailed new paving, decking, screens, fences, gates and walkways in addition to a lush and mostly low water plant list. The existing deck boards were used in custom designed fences and gates. The existing driveway was cut down into a path, providing more permeability to allow rain water to stay on site. The bold modern design patterns in the paving and fences bring life to the classical architecture. Existing signature plants - a 2 story tall podocarpus hedge for privacy and a vibrant bougainvillea - were incorporated into the planting design. The effect is lush and tropical while most of the new plants are low water.
